EDUC 651: Connecting Curriculum & Technology

In EDUC 651, we discussed curricular issues and various technologies in an asynchronous construct. Below are a few work samples.

Infographic: Using Quizlet in Science

An infographic is a visual used to display information (data, research, statistics, etc.).  The web tool I used below is Venngage.  To brief, my infographic (1) gives a snapshot of Quizlet, a web tool detailed in the white paper below; (2) details the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards structuring my use of Quizlet in the classroom; and (3) covers a brief snapshot of the results from an action research project I conducted as a requirement for Advanced Educational Psychology, where I first began using Quizlet in my middle school science classroom. Feel free to explore the infographic and click on various hyperlinks embedded into it.

White Paper: Quizlet

A white paper is a guide to understand an issue or topic. I chose Quizlet because one of my professional goals this year was to focus on vocabulary, which is crucial in understanding science jargon, and incorporating more literacy into my classroom.  A colleague suggested I use Quizlet in combination with close reading strategies, and it has been a big hit in my middle school science classroom.  The paper below is my take on Quizlet and how it could be a useful tool in any classroom for all students.

White Paper and Action Research Reflection

Action Research

My action research project this fall reflects an area in which I wanted to grow this school year.  My desire is to teach more literacy strategies using informational texts and non-texts.  South Carolina's 2014 Science Standards focus a great deal on performance standards, which makes way for engineering design and the flipped method of teaching.  Students will need to have the skills of being able to make claims or arguments and extrapolating information to support them. Incorporating literacy strategies in the science classroom supports the movement toward 21st Century classrooms.  If you would like more information of my research method, pedagogical strategies, or otherwise, please send a message using the contact form below.  In effort to further protect the identities of my students, I will not post my Action Research paper until I have clearance.
