ABOUT ME

I am interested in using the Internet in teaching and learning primarily because the Web has tons of great resources waiting to be packaged and used. Specifically, my district has a one-to-one technology initiative, and my school is a Chromebook school.  Everything on the Chromebook is web-based, so it is important I am familiar with not only the newest tools, but also the best practices in order to level up in my technology use.

My experience with the Internet in education as a teacher is mostly where it is used to deliver content and to conduct research.  Through engineering practices, I

have gravitated toward using the Internet for problem-solving; however, I am definitely interested in finding new and effective ways to make sure I'm facilitating a true 21st Century/constructivist learning model in my classroom.

As a student, I have participated in many hybrid, or blended, learning experiences, with one opportunity to take two classes completely online.  In my experience, I have created a few webpages from free hosts; however, I have never created my own domain website.

As for creating online content, I have kept things very simple by using EducreationsEducanonVimeo, and YouTubeI would like to improve in my instructional design so that I facilitate at the needs of the students in each tier of intervention.

The use of Internet in education is a good thing if it is used appropriately.  I believe it is an opportunity to teach students how to have good cyber etiquette and how to access, discern, and use electronic resources for research and learning.  With research, the Internet becomes problematic as students or users are better able to plagiarize or present false information.  Additionally, sometimes Internet resources lack quality, as there are so many from which to choose.  As a professional, I see the Internet as an opportunity to expand my professional learning network (PLN) and to gain knowledge and perspective from professionals from various parts of the world.
